OBSI is a free, independent service for resolving investment disputes impartially.  You have up to 180 days after receiving your firm’s response to submit your complaint to OBSI.  OBSI can recommend compensation of up to $350,000.

Legal representation is not required.

First, read OBSI’s Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).  This will help you understand what OBSI can do, and how OBSI works.  Make sure your firm is one of OBSI’s participating firms.  Simply click here for an alphabetical listing of participating firms, including IIROC-regulated firms.  If your firm isn’t listed here, please contact OBSI.

Start by filling in an OBSI Complaint Form and submit it online.

You may want to download their Complaint Form to fax or mail a completed version to them with additional information or documents.  Remember to keep a copy of your correspondence.  Do not send originals of your documents.

OBSI’s mailing address is:
Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments
401 Bay Street, Suite 1505
P.O. Box 5
Toronto, ON M5H 2Y4

If you have questions or would like more information, please call their toll-free number at 1-888-451-4519.  Their toll-free fax number is 1-888-422-2865.

Or email ombudsman@obsi.ca .

Their website address is www.obsi.ca .

IMPORTANT:  If you decide not to accept OBSI’s recommendation, you can still seek redress through the IIROC arbitration program or the courts.

FYI…

It’s up to you to decide whether to submit your complaint to OBSI.

If you do, IIROC rules require firms to fully cooperate with OBSI throughout the investigation.
