As Senior Vice-President, Enforcement, Registration and Enterprise Risk, Elsa Renzella oversees a variety of departments, which all play a critical role in IIROC's investor protection mandate.
The Registration department ensures that individuals approved by IIROC satisfy certain suitability requirements including minimum proficiency and integrity standards. IIROC's Enforcement department ensures Approved Persons and the investment dealers who employ them are appropriately disciplined when there is a violation of IIROC Rules. Elsa also oversees the Complaints and Inquiries team, the primary contact for investor inquiries and complaints and works closely with Enforcement in identifying potential regulatory misconduct. Elsa is also responsible for IIROC's enterprise risk management and oversees its project management team.
Elsa joined IIROC's predecessor organization, the Investment Dealers Association, in 2002 as Enforcement Counsel and later assumed the role of Director, Enforcement Litigation. In 2013, she became Vice-President, Enforcement, and was later appointed as Senior Vice President, Enforcement and Registration in January 2018, before taking on her current expanded responsibilities in 2021.
Elsa has extensive litigation experience, including work in private practice with a criminal defence law firm before starting her career in regulation. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from York University and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School.
