Catherine Smith has served since 2010 on the board of Walmart Canada Bank, and is a member on the Bank’s Conduct Review and Audit Risk Committees. Ms. Smith is President of the Board of Directors for Ash Hill Centre for the Arts in Swansea New Hampshire. From 2003 through 2009, she was the COO/CFO of United Way Toronto. From 1977 through 2001, she held various roles at CIBC in Tokyo, New York, and Toronto, in retail, wholesale banking and trading, discount brokerage and wealth management. From 1999-2001, Ms. Smith was EVP responsible for Online Brokerage and Fixed Term Investments, Wealth Management. She has worked with various regulatory regimes. Ms. Smith was on the boards of four of CIBC’s subsidiary entities from 1999-2001 (CIBC Trust Inc., CIBC Securities Inc., CIBC Financial Planning Inc., and CIBC Securities Inc.) and has also served on the boards of Groome Capital Inc. (Montreal), Intria Items Inc. (a CIBC/Fiserv joint venture), the Council of Independent Schools, Ontario and was the board chair of the York School. She has served on the board of Pine River Foundation and on the Audit Committee of Toronto East General Hospital and on the Chartered Professional Accountants Risk Oversight and Governance Board and was chair of the CPA’s NFP Governance Task Force. Ms. Smith received the ICD.D. designation from Rotman and the Institute of Corporate Directors in 2007, and an Honours B.A. from Queen’s University, 1976. Ms. Smith is Chair of IIROC’s Human Resources and Pension Committee and a member of IIROC’s Corporate Governance Committee.
