ComSet is a web-based system through which IIROC Member firms are required to report client complaints, disciplinary matters, and civil, criminal or regulatory actions against the firm or its current or former registrants. ComSet is used by both Enforcement and Compliance for its risk based approach to Member Regulation.
The ComSet Risk Tool is a software tool that is based on a statistical regression model designed by the University of Toronto’s statistics department. The tool uses mathematical algorithms to normalize ComSet reporting and takes into account such things as the number of events reported by a firm, the types of events and violations, the seriousness of events and the number of registrants at a firm. A statistically valid weighting is assigned to all events.
The tool allows this information to be represented in graphical form. The graphs demonstrate the reporting trends for a firm, their standing in relation to firms in the same peer group, and the industry trend line.
